Śrī Kṣetra Chinchwad

Even though this place does not belong to Aṣṭavināyaka Gaṇapatīs, it was Śrī Moraya Gosavi Maharaj, a great ascetic for whom Śrī Mayureśvara of Morgaon came to Chinchwad and it acquired importance. A great ascetic Śrī Moraya Goasavi Maharaj took a Sanjeevan Samadhi at Chinchwad similar to Śrī Jñāneśvara Maharaj of Alandi.

This is a sacred place. Visiting the sacred Shrines present here is equal to visiting Aṣṭavināyaka. Among the Gaṇeśa Pīṭhas (Seat or Shrine of a deity considered as most sacred) of Maharashtra Morgaon, Rajur and Padmalay considered as complete Gaṇeśa Pīṭhas whereas Chinchwad is partial Gaṇeśa Pīṭha of Gāṇapatya cult.

Chinchwad is situated on the banks of river Pavana, eleven miles from Pune in Haveli taluka of Pune district. On the railway line, Chinchwad is a station. Chinchwad village, Sanjeevan Samadhi temple of Śrīman Mahasadhu Śrī Moraya Gosavi Maharaj and Śrī Maṁgalamūrtī Wāḍā is one mile away from the Chinchwad railway station. Earlier there was a large forest of tamarind (Chinch in Marathi) trees in this place, so this village got the name Chinchwadi or Chinchur. Chinchwad has been mentioned in historical records as Gaṇeśapur due to its association with Śrī Moraya Gosavi Maharaj. Chinchwad is considered as sacred as Morgaon for gaining Puṇya (religious merit) and Worship. Many Devotees have received the divine vision and fulfilled their desires at this place. The subtle form of Śrī Mayureśvara is residing at Maṁgalamūrtī Wāḍā in the form of idol of Śrī Maṁgalamūrtī.
